Best picnic spots in the Gold Coast!

Updated: Dec 8, 2017

Get your phones ready to snap some of the best Instagram spots in the Gold Coast!

If secluded picnics are what you love, then Springbrook national park is your go to! The best spots are found a little bit off the worn track, but be sure to map out your journey first! IF you haven't invested in a portable cook top, ( I suggest you do! ), having bacon and eggs and a hot cup of tea and watching the sunrise at one of these amazing lookouts are what life is all about. Grab your best friend, leave at a ridiculous hour and enjoy these spots all to yourself. I bet you're wondering where this look out is in particular? Keep reading to find out where...

The best thing about Springbrook national park is that you can do as little or as much as you desire. There are so many amazing look outs, picnic spots and family friendly area's for everyone to enjoy. If you enjoy nice long walks, then I suggest looking up some of the numerous walks that are available online!

Safety first- When embarking on these hikes, make sure to map out exactly where to go, and I suggest not straying too far from the track. A lot of these long hikes result in barely any contact with anyone, so be safe, but enjoy the peace and quiet at the same time.

The essentials- Water, bring plenty of water in a good sturdy back pack that will be comfortable for numerous hours, a map of the track you are embarking on, a good picnic, sunscreen, a good hat, snacks are awesome to nibble on whilst walking, and if you don't have a polaroid already, I suggest you buy one (not essential, just freaking awesome!).

Springbrook is so far away from the hustle and bustle of the city and all it has to offer, so enjoy some quiet time. Read a book, study for an exam (my favourite place to study), breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy life a little!

My absolute favourite spot in Springbrook national is found at the Wunburra Lookout. Instead of following the path, follow the creek right to the drop off of the waterfall where you will find an opening to the left, which opens up to the best picnic spot! The awesome thing is, it's a 50 meter walk from the car park! Be safe though, it is a huge drop off, so don't bring kids or anyone that will be silly.

The best thing about Springbrook national park is that it's a short drive off the highway. Whether it's an afternoon trip to watch the sunset, or an action packed day full of hikes, waterfalls and fun, there's something for everyone to do. If I can't persuade you to buy a portable cooker (you should), there are multiple BBQ spots all around the mountain, so come equipped with food, and cooking utensils.

If you're not a fan for planning and packing picnics or getting stuff ready for a BBQ, there are a few places to eat and have a nice cup of coffee, whether its Scuttlebutt Café ( Yes that's the real name), it's a really nice café, that provide all you need for a lunch or quick fix, the fudge shop which provides freshly made fudge, ice cream and drinks or the cutest little café near Wunburra lookout which holds high tea's and is owned by the sweetest people.

If you're not sure about whether Springbrook national park is the best spot for you, why not check out Binna Burra national park/ Lamington national park!? This national park is great for all the walking enthusiast! Tracks that are so easy but will let you encounter numerous waterfalls, picnic spots, lookouts and some great wildlife! Make sure to be prepared on these hikes though, I've been numerous times and haven't encountered a single person on some trips.

Lastly, if you're enjoying these national parks, be respectful of your surroundings. There aren't many bins, so don't litter and have a backpack or plastic bag that you can take so you can leave this little gem, unspoilt and ready for others to enjoy!
